The prestigious Awards function of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association for the year 2008 along with Fellows’ Dinner was arranged at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on the evening of 13th of March, 2009. The glittering function was attended by the Fellows of IPA, Industry doyens, Regulators, Educators, Healthcare professionals & representatives of international affiliating organizations. Dr. Kamal Midha, President, International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) was the Chief Guest of this glittering function. The program began with an invocation & ceremonial lamp lighting by IPA President, Dr. B. Suresh, Chief Guest, Dr. Kamal Midha, Immediate Past IPA President, Subodh Priolkar & Past IPA President, Prafull Sheth. This was followed by felicitation of Prof. K. Chinnaswamy, recipient of IPA Eminent Pharmacist Award 2008 & Subodh Priolkar, recipient of Prof. M. L. Khorana Memorial Lecture Award 2008. In his address, Dr. Suresh reflected on his dreams for the Association. Dr. Kamal Midha, in his talk, highlighted the relevance of ‘Pharma Vision 2020’ in raising the standards of pharmacy practice & sciences. Dr. Rao Vadlamudi, Editor, Indian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences then announced Prof. M. L. Khorana IJPS Best Research Paper Awards. The awards were given to Dr. R. P. Dixit, Dr. R.Panchagnula, Dr. Urmila Joshi, Mr. R. S. Kadam, Mr. M. A. Mahat & Dr. K. K. Shrinivasan by Dr. Kamal Midha. The Awards function continued with IPA Best Local / State Branch Awards. IPA –West Bengal Branch and Nilgiris Local Branch were once again given the Best State and Local Branch Awards for 2008 respectively. Special Recognition IPA Best Branch Award was given to Karnataka State Branch for the exemplary work done in terms of expanding the member base. The much coveted IPA Fellowships were conferred on JAS Giri, Prof. N. Uduppa, Vinod Kalani & Prof. K. R. Mahadik, for their contributions to the cause of the profession & association activities. The prestigious IPA – Ramanbhai Patel Foundation Life Time Achievement Award was presented to Mr. Chandru Shahani for his pivotal role in the growth of the pharmaceutical profession and the industry.
